Early Years Foundation Stage

In Oak Unit, our curriculum is based upon continuous provision that has been carefully chosen to provide open ended resources to create an inclusive curriculum. We then use In The Moment Planning (ITMP) to extend and challenge our children’s learning at their stage of development. We encourage our children to become independent learners, following their own lines of enquiry therefore we do not have set topics for each term.  Our environment is enhanced based on the children’s needs and interests. This is supported with daily teacher directed activities.

We use a talking tub and floorbook approach to decide the themes based on our children’s interests. These resources support is in developing the lines of enquiry the children choose.

Autumn Term

In the Autumn term, we will be getting to know our children and finding out about each child and their families. Alongside our topics, based on children’s interests, we will also be looking at changes in Autumn, Harvest, Bonfire Night and Christmas. We will be introducing the children to ‘Helicopter Stories’, We will start our Read Write Inc Phonics program and learn to blend sounds to make words. We will be practising writing our names and beginning to write CVC words, such as  cat, dog, hen.  We will begin to read ‘red words’ from the Read Write Inc. Phonics program. In Maths we will be focusing on numbers 1-10 looking at composition, number recognition and number formation as well as recognising 2d shapes and ordering objects by size.

Spring Term

In Spring we will look at changes in Winter and Spring. We will also focus on Chinese New Year, Shrove Tuesday, Easter and World Book Day. We will continue our ‘Helicopter Stories’.
