DT

We aim to develop the children's imagination and creativity through inspiring, rigorous and practical activities which will equip them with skills needed to become confident and successful members of the increasingly technical world in which they live. We offer time in our Design Technology lessons to discuss and consider future opportunities pupils could achieve within their working life and how the skills they have the opportunity to learn with us at Barton St. Peters can support them to do so. We encourage and guide our pupils to learn new skills through our D.T. curriculum where they may not have previously had the opportunity to do so. The school offers a comprehensive curriculum where students engage in hands-on projects such as creating food products, textiles, structures, and mechanisms, and in KS2 incorporating electrical components and using CAD (Computer aided design). These activities encourage collaborative work, problem-solving, and the evaluation of their own ideas and products. We wholeheartedly embrace the increased focus on cooking and nutrition within the Design and Technology curriculum and as a school we seek to provide our children with opportunities to develop their knowledge and understanding of nutrition as part of a healthy lifestyle.
